Every brand faces its own unique challenges but amongst those are two that we all share; staying ahead of the competition and keeping up with technology. In a world that's becoming increasingly mobile, making your brand available to customers on the move is something we all have to embrace.

At a basic level, this means making your website accessible from the ever growing list of mobile devices, from smart phones to iPads. Whilst a great number of these now sport fully fledged web browsers as capable as those you have on your PC, it's not always the case that your standard website will work. Flash on an iPhone, for example, is largely unavailable.

Beyond the technical ability of a given device to render your website properly, remember that people use the internet in different ways in different situations. I have a large touch screen smartphone but will still grab the laptop for certain online activities. And whilst the technology moves on with exponential speed, the size of a human finger is unlikely to evolve much in the next ten years. A mobile friendly version of your site with larger buttons for an improved touchscreen experience makes you far more accessible to customers not in front of a computer.

There's an app for that...

Of course, websites are just the tip of the iceberg. Mobile devices offer many other technologies that can be put to good use; cameras are turned into barcode scanners, GPS technology paves the way for geolocation services like Poynt and the two combined provide us with the fantastically named 'augmented reality'. 2011 has been heralded as the 'Year of mobile commerce' as mobile hardware manufacturers seek to usurp the humble wallet with Near Field Communication technology, allowing consumers to pay for their petrol and copy of the Guardian with their iPhone.
Whilst all of this might seem a little 'out there' for us muggles, remember that this year's cutting edge is next year's bog standard, and that appropriately embraced, they represent a myriad opportunities to engage with our audience. And after all, that's what brand building is all about.

Ideas by Eden won a competitive three-way pitch to develop the brand and website design for this new and exciting executive recruitment business operating within the agriculture, logistics, food & beverage and retail sectors.

The website (and business) has just launched and has already gained some great feedback.

Orchard Children’s Nursery

Ideas by Eden was originally commissioned to develop a brand for this new children's nursery in the south-east. We were able to produce a design that is both contemporary and approachable.

We're currently helping the nursery develop signage and other collateral to maintain the momentum from a very successful launch.

The first stage of development has been completed and Tony O’Donnell of Cambium says he’s “looking forward to developing the relationship and building a stronger and more successful online marketing tool. The new website looks great”.

Case Study: Eden Search & Select

Ideas by Eden won a competitive three way pitch to produce brand website and stationery for this startup executive recruitment business which aims to challenge the stereotypes of todays recruitment industry.

An initial brainstorm highlighted the requirement to find a balance between fresh young ambitious and cutting edge with the more traditional and more corporate values of the industry. A range of names were in the mix before Eden Search and Select was chosen for it's connotations of growing development...

The process challenged many decisions before deciding to mix a fresh colour palette with a modern contemporary design but retaining a corporate professional look and feel.

The Cambridge Toy Shop is a leading high street retailer based in the heart Cambridge's city centre. We were appointed to run a pre-Christmas campaign to drive footfall and build a database of warm contacts.

We quickly developed a website holding page featuring a competition before producing a range of materials for the PR and ad campaigns.

Cambridge-based design and marketing agency Ideas by Eden has made a good start to the New Year wrapping up a number of web development and online marketing projects in a flurry of activity that bodes well for 2011.

International training company Financial Training Associates based in London, has commissioned Ideas by Eden to migrate their static website to a content-managed system, giving them full control and enabling them to quickly respond to changes in their service offering

. Ideas by Eden has also won a competitive three way branding and website pitch for new Cambridge-based recruitment agency Eden Search & Select (no connection), launched on Monday 10th January. Eden managing director David Macaulay is “excited to launch the new business, brand and website and has enjoyed working through the development process from start to finish with Ideas by Eden”.

David Robins, director of Ideas by Eden, said “We won lots of new business last year and this is a great start to 2011. It might be chilly outside and the recent VAT increase has had a frosty reception but we’ve got a warm feeling for 2011”.
